About SMALL

Get tickets to Small on TodayTix to see this acclaimed one-person show return to the stage. A 2024 Drama Desk Award nominee and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee for Outstanding Solo Performance, Small in New York City is the story of Broadway performer Robert Montano, who wrote and stars in this fresh work. The play examines his life journey, dreams of being a horse-racing jockey, and eventual Broadway turn in hit musicals where he danced with legends.

Small plays for a limited run this May, June, and July at the Pershing Square Signature Center on 42nd Street. A play for anyone who has ever chased a dream that felt too big for reach, Small off Broadway is a love letter to the strivers, of all sizes. Montano delivers "a gripping and vividly acted one-man show," per Charles Isherwood in The Wall Street Journal, which called the star "a vibrantly watchable performer."

More information about SMALL

In Small, Broadway performer Robert Montano takes audiences through various phases of his life: being bullied at school because of his short stature, his dreams of being a jockey, and his major Broadway bows. Being small can have big advantages, especially on the race track. It's where Montano wanted to be, and he enthusiastically and inventively takes audiences through that niche world in his impressive physical performance.

However, he landed on Broadway instead, dancing in shows such as On the Town, Cats, and Kiss of the Spider Woman opposite Chita Rivera. Along the way, Montano shares his wild, autobiographical story that touches on family, racism, determination, and the gift of finding your purpose.

See how one boy moved from the stalls to the stage in this epic yet intimate one-person show, returning after its hit initial run at 59e59 Theatres. Ted Snowdon produces this new production from Penguin Rep Theatre.
