See the return of this New York Times Critic's Pick that's a subversive riff on Arthur Miller's All My Sons. Over the course of a summer day in Northampton, Massachusetts, A Woman Among Women off Broadway follows Cleo, founder of the local women’s wellness center, as she endeavors to keep a tight-knit community from slipping apart. Coming to LCT3's Claire Tow Theater, A Woman Among Women in New York is a riveting new drama.
Welcome to rural Massachusetts, where Cleo holds court in her backyard. As friends, family, and neighbors pass through, the day gets tenser as secrets unravel and new information may destroy the community Cleo has worked so hard to build. With A Woman Among Women, playwright Julia May Jonas creates a clever counterpoint to Arthur Miller’s famed play All My Sons. Variety called the show “fascinating, playful, and ultimately wrenching” as Jonas offers a new take on the American tragedy. Even as it riffs on Miller's play, no prior knowledge of it is needed: this is a new work and one with universal themes that highlight family, community, and the identities we strive to preserve to keep others around us safe.
Now returning after a hit run, A Woman Among Women was originally developed with and produced by The Bushwick Starr and New Georges, and world premiered in the 2024-25 season. Julia May Jones returns to Lincoln Center Theater after her play Your Own Personal Exegesis, and she is also a novelist: her debut novel, Vladimir, was published in February 2022 by Avid Reader Press and was named "Best Book of 2022 (so far)" by Time Magazine.
